Like leaflets chattering in the wind

We file into pews like leaflets chattering in the wind,

admire the house we built for God

as though He has no hands,

critique the Pastor’s sermon,

his wife, her dress, the kids ,

sidle into pews, and play the song again,

One potato two potato three potato four

we like to play at church

‘til we exit out the door,

“ Our mission plan is godly”

(forget to worship Him)

“ Here a tithe there a tithe … give give give”

“Let’s go and save the world today,”

That’s what pastor likes to say.

“I’m glad we built this church for him.”

Home again home again jiggety jig.
