Capitalism

i think i’ll stay in my pajamas today, ignore the shrieks of Capitalism

(as she cat-howls like a banshee slipping down a bannister,

beckoning folks from far and near

to weave old straw into streams,

plucking holes in her skirts

with splinters in the palms of her hands,

whispering to the knots in her hair)

Who needs that? i think i’ll just pour myself a cup of chamomile tea,

try to forget about the refrigerator purring outside my window

see if i can’t remember how to breathe
