Your Ballad Perches

For a long time I thought

your love

was a freckle-faced moon

speckling shadows

just around the bend

laying eggs in the boughs

where silk worms sew feathers

But through the mist

just above the crook of your elbow

your ballad perches

a lion-beaked owl

gathering acorns, seashells

and the ears of women
