Jet on velvet

In the gap

between my curtain and window top

a bit of white toothed moon

holds

a panther cub

by the nape of its nursling neck

while I watch and scoop little white stars into the rice bowl of my eye

a jet roars restless

endless

and for awhile

i want to feel

the velvet outside my window

but can’t

’til

the sound stops on the tip of a chopstick

and stars once again

dip milk

into the mewing kitten’s mouth
