As I stand outside cupping sunlight next to the tangerine tree,
an old couple walks down the street
he -several feet ahead,
she- tossing comments
to concrete
which bounce back up
and hit him in the back,
they are a couple
that is all…
The light tries to dance a straight line
but fails
so you can hear the leaves
warble a little…
and there I am holding sunshine
which dribbles
onto pecan leaves in my driveway
the downy hairs above my elbow
echo birdsong
as the trees and I dapple auburn in autumn…
before lines of winter branches bloom
stark amongst old weeds
of course,
all of us hope to see
a pair of 80 year old lovers
rowing about on a lake
in Spring
I loved the comments bouncing back up to hit him, brilliant! 😁

A joyful giggle at the concept and the image it created in my mind. (I love it when a poem does that.) 😊
