What Do You Mean, God’s Too Busy to Speak to Me??

Psalm 23  says, ” The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”  But what if what I want is to have a conversation with Him?  What if that’s what I’m wanting?  I know, I know, I can pray and read the Bible and that’s how He talks to me right?  But… isn’t that kind of like me talking and Him just texting?download (1)So is He just too busy to talk?

Soooo…when Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice… what He really meant was… when My sheep read My Voice… right?

Sooooooo……..the Church is called the Bride of Christ and our groom says, “Baby, if you need to talk to ME… look at my old texts and figure out what I’m trying to say…oh… and you can also talk to Me… but your messages are going to Voice Mail?”

Isn’t Love supposed to look like this?wedding-865858_960_720

Rather than this?

You know… Jesus said He came to give us life and life more abundantly.  I don’t know about you but I am feeling the Love much more in the first pic than the second.  Many say our walk with the Lord is not all about feelings… and you know what?    They’re right!  It isn’t!

It is so important to be grounded in the Word of God!   So let’s find out where this fad of “hearing from God” started.

Genesis 3:8 says, ” They HEARD the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…”

Exodus 19:9 says, “The Lord SAID to Moses, Behold, I will come to you …”

The prophet Isaiah says, “Then I HEARD the voice of the Lord saying…” (Isaiah 6:8)

Deuteronomy 4:33 says, “Has any people HEARD the VOICE of God speaking from the midst of the fire?…”

Numbers 7:89,  “Now when Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with Him, he HEARD the VOICE speaking to him…”

.ok-1468680_960_720…OK…OK… but that’s Old Testament right?  Aren’t we living in a New Covenant?  Yep:)…so check this out…

Hebrews 3:16, “Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you HEAR HIS VOICE…”

2 Peter 1:18, “We heard this VOICE come out of HEAVEN when we were with him on the holy mountain.”

Above Scriptures are quoted with my emphases on words that have to do with hearing…not reading… God’s voice.  Does God speak through His written Word?  Absolutely!  Check this out… Hilkiah found the Book of the Law and gave it to Shaphan who was secretary to King Josiah.  The book was read in Josiah’s presence and Josiah’s reaction was to take what had been read to him so seriously that he got the guys to  bring  a prophetess named Huldah into their action plan.  As a result the future of Israel was changed. ( And yes… for the better…)

The BIBLE is our book.. given to us by the HOLY ONE … it’s full of life and light and God talking…and that is why we need to look at not only what is revealed through it… but at precedents  God set  regarding His desire to talk to us. We need to know that the God who spoke to the prophets…still speaks today.

What would have happened if Isaiah had decided  God no longer spoke and only read what other prophets had written?  I can only imagine how impoverished our Scripture readings would be, if not only Isaiah but  other prophets as well bought into that kind of thinking.   What if they had bought into a line of thinking that said  God only speaks through His previous Words?  What if the Jewish people believed a lie that closed their ears to hear His Voice and stopped actively listening to Him after the first five Books of the Bible were written?  What if the shepherd boy David had bought it?  What would have become of Israel?

“For now we see in a mirror dimly…”( 1 Corinthians 13:12)carnival-1991815__340

Isn’t that the truth?  In America many of us have taken to believing certain interpretations of Scripture to the point that we are profoundly divided.  Liberals see conservatives as upside down and vice versa. jets-801665__340

We often mirror each other in that we are believing what we have been taught… rather than following the Biblical precedent of His people and asking Him what HE  has to SAY about issues.  Many of us are well meaning in applying our own favorite Scriptures to very real… very serious issues at hand.  But…what is He saying?

You know, there is a time for all things and Jesus knew this.  There was a time for Jesus to cleanse the temple and a time for Him to say, “Father forgive them they don’t know what they are doing.”

Arguments abound regarding refugee vetting.  I am 100% behind all Scripture that speak of caring for the refugees in our land.  When I was young I spearheaded an outreach to S.East Asian refugees and even moved into their neighborhoods so as to attempt to identify with them.  In addition most of my career as a teacher has been with second language learners.

However, as I have waited and listened to what He is saying in this present time of unrest  I am very  concerned about blindly allowing folks who profess Islam into our country.   He has led me to write some extremely impassioned articles regarding this very subject for iPatriot.

Is this because I am a xenophobe?  Noooo… a year ago I was  looking into wearing a hijab as a fashion statement.  But given the things He has laid on my heart recently… I write instead.  Over and over I have heard the words, “There is a NO before a YES.”  Over and over He brings to mind how He cleansed the Temple.   Many in our country have cried out to the Lord to heal our land.  And He has come to cleanse and to heal.

At times this has been an uncomfortable journey for me.  One looks so much better when loving on the homeless or  encouraging  hurting folks.  But it is important to me to listen to His voice and go where He asks.  Even so.. I have been begging Him to give me a more palatable task… to show me where His “Yes,” is.

And here it is…

Welcome to Korea…

The above picture is of an older Korean shepherd.

In the north, people are so desperate to find a safe place to live that as they escape…they plan to kill themselves if sent back …not a suicide bombing mind you… but a desperation so great they have determined to flee the life they are living one way or another.  They have no religious protocol that beckons them to institute their own religion through violence  as some “refugees” have.

I have known for a little while that I must write about North Korea..the Father’s heart longs to give these people a safe haven.  The question is… will we allow the United States to be that safe haven or will we continue to demand that unvetted folks enter our land? Will we continue to march on behalf of folks that have so much of a voice they are calling for upheaval of our government or will we open our eyes to the plight of true refugees around the world?  He hears their cries you know…

He is… a father to the fatherless… and a great lover of our souls.  He longs to talk to us in a myriad of ways… and you know what ?  It’s OK if you listen:)

Blessings,

Kae

  1. I found you through this post about North Korea. North Korea has been on my heart lately. I think our Creator has some *amazing* things planned for North Korea. He has wept over each and every citizen, He has heard the cries from both the people and their blood in the ground.
